If the bleach has 4% to 6% of chlorine, you should add 8 drops of bleach in each gallon of water. If the chlorine content of the bleach is 7% to 10%, you should add 4 drops of bleach in each gallon of water. After the bleach is added, you should wait for up to half an hour to allow the chlorine to settle down in the water. Once these are settled, you can drink that water. If the water has a smell of chlorine, it is purified. Otherwise, you may need to do this process again.

After adding the iodine solution in the water, you should allow it for up to half an hour or one hour to settle down the iodine at room temperature. After that, you can drink this water by shaking it a little. If you don’t like the taste and smell of iodine added water, you can add lemon juice or vitamin C tablets to reduce that.

6. Use solar purification method

This is a cost-effective method to purify drinking water. If the boiling of water is not possible, you can use this process. In this process, you need to fill the plastic bottles with contaminated water and keep them under the sun for up to 8 hours. After 8 hours, you can drink that water. This method is easy to do and no maintenance is required.
